Description
Gibson L-75 Late 1934 – transitionalThis L-75 variant appeared immediately after the Century model and mostly likely in the same year. It shares the same body shape as the L-00 flat tops measuring 14 ?? at the lower bout, 19 «? long and 4 1/8? deep. Noteworthy is the added body depth of this model variation. A similar L-50 of this period was 3 «? deep while this is 4 1/8?. With its bound fretboard and inlayed logo, this is a bit fancier than most small bodied Gibson archtops of the period. The top is carved spruce with parallel braces, while the back and sides are mahogany. The flat back is slightly arched by braces. In 1934 this same guitar began to appear with an additional vase motif inlay on the headstock. By 1935 the L-75 was redesigned as a 16? round sound-hole model resembling the earlier round-hole L-4, but with either a flat or carved mahogany back and mahogany sides. courtesy of D Buetttner
