Description

Late 1933-34 round sound-hole L-50 (transitional)At the end of 1933 and for most of 1934, both f-hole and round-hole L-50?s were built with this familiar L-00 shaped body. It measures 14 ?? at the lower bout, 19 «? long and 3 «? deep. The top is carved with a more refined recurve by this time, and the flat back is solid maple and braced. This newer style, less curvaceous pickguard began to appear on Gibson?s archtops in late 1933.The tuners in this photo are not original but are typical for the period. By 1935 the L-50 was redesigned using the 16? body shape and size, and thus began yet another group of variations.courtesy of D BuetttnerThe catalog page is from the 1937 Gibson catalog.
